Seth Troxler – Hurt
by jaytee on Jan.19, 2012, under From Youtube, Minimal Tribal, Recommended tracks, Song Reviews
Subtle drums fade this one in, its the kind of track that can be played at any kind of dance spot really. I would introduced this towards the beginning of a Tribal house session because of its minimal nature. Towards the middle it comes on much stronger and the distorted vocals come off kind of bad ass saying “hurt ya” repeatedly. Its temporarily evolves into an eclectic kind of New York early morning house jam towards the end then levels off to where it was the first two minutes.
Metronomy – The Bay
by jaytee on Jan.17, 2012, under From Youtube, Recommended tracks, Song Reviews
Metronomy’s “The Bay” is edgy dance music with a touch of hipster laying on beach. They deliver a real nice video to lay your eyes on that defines turn of the decade. You really feel like comfortably convolved with this track, you can easily melt away to their meditative new wave electronic dance rhythm because its harmonious and well produced, therefore good enough to let go and enjoy.
The video is Directed by David Wilson and Produced by Patrick Craig and Tamsin Glasson, all of Colonial Blimp. It starts off as many other videos set in a tropical location with a helicopter zooming over pristine blue water which gives way to a small somewhat Mediterranean looking bay. The lead singer Joseph Mount has some really cool filters set to his voice. It comes off kind of epic towards the end, the sounds aren’t so new wave but more like the peak of a house track.
Kim Sozzi – Little Bird (Italia3 Radio Edit)
by jaytee on Aug.13, 2011, under From Youtube, HI-NRG, Recommended tracks, Song Reviews
Ultra records has outdone themselves in producing this gem of a track. I like the fact that vocally it stays away from the traditional trendy fluff. Its got a really nice message, its the kind of track you wanna listen to after a hard days work. The synths are very clean and shine wonderfully right along side Kim Sozzi’s resounding vocals.
Taylor Dayne – Facing A Miracle (Soundfactory Radio Edit)
by jaytee on Jul.08, 2011, under From Youtube, HI-NRG, Recommended tracks
Quickly the song takes on a warm hi-nrg message, the buildup is reminiscent of Whitney Houston – My Love Is Your Love(Jonathan Peters Mix), guess that why this is the Soundfactory edit. The track is rhythmic and the breaks between the builds that are clouded with etherial synths, just like a good pop dance track should be.
ATB – Could You Believe
by jaytee on Aug.27, 2010, under From Youtube, Song Reviews
Another wonderful production from ATB. Its so refreshing to have this amazing DJ wholeheartitly embrace vocals in his Trance beats. This is one of very few pure trance tracks that can be played at most any dance event I can think of. I would love to hear Lady gaga come out with a single like this.
Armin van Buuren – Full Focus
by jaytee on Aug.27, 2010, under From Youtube, Recommended tracks, Song Reviews
This song begins with what I would call bubbly electronic sounds, I’ve rarely heard then used and its refreshing like sipping a good glass of wine. The harmony reminds me of Tiesto if he were to upgrade his early popular music style wrapped for 2010. The peak is melodic and musical with an electronic harmony that is key to stabilizing the track with a stream of hi-nrg synthesizers, that kicks it into high gear . This track is an essential if your looking to spin Trance for an hour or two, it will keep your audience engaged in the party.
Armin van Buuren – Surrender (Track from unreleased Mirage album)
by jaytee on Jul.15, 2010, under From Youtube, Recommended tracks, Song Reviews
This track comes off as good old regular trance driven by an epic style that is very common in Armin Van Buuren tracks. The scintillating synthesizer sets a wonderful mood through the track. You can probably throw this track on as a sort of pre-peak track or wine down your set and intro into more progressive trance. A warning to any dj attempting to play this track by itself after 3 minutes, it might get played. You must start your blending after 3 minutes due to the fact that the track is very repetitive.
Filo & Peri feat. Eric Lumiere – Shine On (Activa Remix)
by jaytee on Jun.28, 2010, under From Youtube, Recommended tracks, Song Reviews
This track has been on my active playlist for over four months now. It’s a perfectly blended Trance track that builds wonderfully into its vocal interludes. I say vocal interludes because the music doesn’t suffer from Eric Lumiere’s vocals as do a lot of Vocal trance songs that are released. The vocals performed by Eric Lumiere and electronic beats are epically woven into one of the best commercial trance tracks to come out in the last year. I highly recommend this track to any DJ that’s looking for an ice breaker to get people out on the dance floor.
Airscape Feat. Jes – My Love (Johan Gielen Remix)
by jaytee on Jun.28, 2010, under From Youtube, Song Reviews
This song begins very soft and you immediately know your listening to some trance music. The vocals are out of the pop trance genre and very ethereal without loosing clarity. I can understand most everything the singer is singing while experiencing the ethereal Trance goodness that Airscape and Gielen are known for. The Vocal track is very distinguishable from the electronic sounds. I would definitely play this track as a mood setter around 10 o’clock Saturday on a radio station somewhere, I wouldn’t play this at a club or lounge, it just doesn’t do it for me that way. If your interested in something more club, check out the Niklas Harding Remix though I would recommend you layer some other beats on it.
Dance in the Dark – Lady Gaga (TnA Remix)
by jaytee on May.11, 2010, under From Youtube, Recommended tracks, Song Reviews
This is an excellent remix of Dance in the Dark and would blend wonderfully as the peak or pre-peak of any house mix, it’s very fast and ideal for crowded room/dance floor situations. Or if your daring and have a nice selection of new music this can be a good third song to play during a dj session, you would have to lower the BPM a bit on this though to pull it off I think otherwise it would sound too Kidz Bop.
